Take the Journey...
Our writing workshops are collaborative spaces designed to give both emerging and experienced writers a creative outlet.
You will get the pen on the page, set your own pace, and improve your craft through guidance and support. You will also connect with like-minded writers, and many will form bonds that will last a lifetime.
Take the journey, and together we will grow, learn, share, and inspire one another.
A little about me...
I have been a journalist, author, storyteller, and editor on Long Island for over 35 years. After graduating from Binghamton University with a BA in Creative Writing, I worked for many magazines and publications including Newsday, Dan's Paper, the Northforker, Times Beacon Record, Hampton Family, my own weekly called North Fork Living, and too many others to list. I also wrote a local history book Images of America: Long Island's North Fork and published a young adult novel BLackthorn Island.
My passion is helping aspiring writers tell their story, accompanying them down their chosen path, inspiring them along the way. I am here to offer wisdom, guidance, and most of all, support and encouragement.
Writing is a medium to express in words what is coming from the heart, mind, and soul. It's a creative journey...and I'd love to take the journey with you.

I was excited to find a writing workshop through the East End Arts. I went to the first session with no expectations, just hope and an open mind.
Our group leader and guide, Maria Pietromonaco is a published author and journalist herself. And if making a living as a writer isn’t impressive enough, it is more-so that she is equally inspired to help others express themselves. She encourages us to write in our own voice, reading aloud from our weekly essays or observances. If time permits, we do in-workshop spur-of-the moment exercises with thought provoking prompts.
Joining a group of unknowns can be daunting since writing is a doorway into our lives and souls, so very personal. Luckily, due to Maria’s natural ability to put us at ease, there is an atmosphere of a relaxed warmth, an acceptance both unexpected and welcoming in our group.
Anyone who has an interest in writing, whether just beginning or otherwise, this workshop could be the place to start or continue, to practice and hone your skill. In my case, apart from many other writings, I have managed to shape-up a memoir ready for publishing. And the story continues.
It’s a meaningful journey.

Should you be lucky enough to sign up for a writing workshop led by Maria Pietromonaco you’ll pause halfway through the first meeting and feel the warm glow of realizing you’ve landed in the best possible place to begin to write.
That’s what happened to me a year ago when I mustered up courage to finally test my writing chops. I’m thriving and newly confident thanks to her skill, knowledge, and massively kind and encouraging manner.
I’ve taken a few classes with other “experts” and while I learn from them I’m always grateful to return to Maria’s classes to deepen my skills and confidence.

Taking a memoir writing class with Maria was one of the best
things I did to improve my writing and creativity. With encouragement and inspiring prompts I have written about things I have always wanted to but was too afraid to.
With the class’s support I have submitted and been published in Newsday three times.
I look forward to the upcoming session where my writing will continue to be nurtured.
